The Mirage of AI-Generated Research

𝗜 𝗮𝘀𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝟯𝟬-𝗽𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗜𝗘𝗘𝗘 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗽𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗻 𝗟𝗟𝗠 𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗴𝗼𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀… 𝗮𝗻 𝗟𝗟𝗠 𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

The irony is almost poetic.

The paper had all the right ingredients on the surface: proper IEEE formatting, an abstract, introduction, methodology, results, conclusion, and references. It looked legitimate at first glance.

But when I actually read it? The 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝟳-𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗽𝘆-𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝟳𝟬𝟬 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 across every section.

“Hallucinations in LLMs occur due to probabilistic generation and lack of grounding. This section explores detailed mechanisms, datasets, and algorithms…”

Over and over. In the Introduction. In Related Work. In Methodology. In the Conclusion. Everywhere.

The paper promised mathematical formulations, pseudo-code, case studies, and comparative analysis. It delivered none of them. Just a shell with section headers and endless filler.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘄𝗮𝗸𝗲-𝘂𝗽 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗜 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸:
1. AI can generate structure and formatting effortlessly
2. AI can also produce confidently-packaged nonsense
3. Without human review, garbage gets dressed up as gold

We’re in an era where AI outputs look more professional than ever. That makes critical evaluation more important than ever.
Always verify. Always read what you’re about to submit. The tools are powerful—but they’re not thinking.
